The human body is two-thirds water.
Water is an essential nutrient that is involved in every function of the human body.
We lose about 250ml of water from our bodies each day just through breathing.
While caffeinated and alcoholic drinks do supply water to our bodies, they also contain diuretics that cause bodies to lose water.
You can live without food for several weeks but will last less than seven days without water.
Classic signs of not drinking enough water include:
- Headaches
- Poor concentration
Your body loses water during sleep so you should start and end your day with water.
Don't wait until you feel thirsty to drink water - by the time you feel thirsty you could well have lost two cups of your total body water composition.
Keep it convenient - drink throughout the day. You should carry water with you or keep a bottle on your desk.
Start to have water breaks at work instead of coffee breaks.
